The second-hand shopping app has updated its size classifications for women's and children's garments failing to inform every member regarding the update. Online Platforms Backlash Many shoppers and sellers are posting online saying Vinted listings now show a modified sizing category than originally posted due to the recalibration. Vinted explained the new system was more in line with comparable marketplaces. The platform has recommended to review their products and update the measurements by hand if necessary, which has left users frustrated. Measurement Approach Modifications Earlier, the sizes had both a single numeric size and a letter, such as S/8 or M/10. The updated approach includes a letter with a size spectrum such as S/UK 8-10. With some products, the size labels have been reassigned - for example a size L used to be a 12 but currently displays as UK 16-18. Shopper Experiences Frankie Bridger, who makes TikTok content about plus-size fashion, said the change "makes both selling and buying harder". "Not many brands say XL is a 20-22," as the platform currently indicates. Stephanie Gallen, located in Scotland, said garments she listed with size 14 tags were showing in the marketplace as measurements 20-22. "If buyers measuring 20-22 acquire them they will likely be quite upset," she said. Manual Updates A different user, from Derby, explained she became annoyed by the change as she had to manually change the sizes on "every single listing". "This situation is especially annoying, as I'm chronically ill and platform income has been essential following partial earnings loss," she explained. Platform Context The platform boasts over 100 million shoppers, including 18 million in the UK. It has become a favored option compared to resale services such as eBay and Depop. This is not the initial instance that an unexpected update on the platform has faced criticism: last year, Vinted reversed a change concerning shipment methods following member complaints.
