From the very beginning of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a colorful mix of personalities, and a gripping narrative showcasing divine entities, fiends, and dark forces increasing in power within the urban setting.
Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 are included.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
Episode 3 ended with a dramatic pause and introduced the initial group of characters who will split off from the central cast to begin their independent quest, distinct from the other two tables.
The combat-focused team includes Teor Pridesire (played by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
Given a large ensemble, it was obvious from the outset that keeping everyone at the same party would be unworkable.
This explains, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, connecting the individual narratives before splitting into three smaller tables: Warriors, Planners, and Seekers.
What Defines the Combat Party
Per the DM, the Soldiers table is for participants who are drawn to a traditionally charged fight-heavy story mode where non-violent answers are rare.
Upon first impression, characters like the reluctant priest the cleric might look unsuited, but the developments of the third episode demonstrate why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the warrior group.
Why They Must Go
First, the party knows exactly where to proceed after a brutal initial meeting with the antagonists.
An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose death kicked off the narrative’s action—used the enemy for his personal gain, invading Thjazi’s hideout, striking the character, and taking all the powerful objects to sell off.
Casimir then settled his obligations and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the city, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.
Character Drivers
Additionally, each adventurer has a specific drive to exit the metropolitan area:
- The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, seeks vengeance.
- The adventurer is familiar with the northern area and advises that it is a hostile place.
- Tyranny and The cleric, having defied his family’s wishes to kill the fighter and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
- However, their status as prominent individuals in the powerful family could enable the party enter locations they usually can’t.
- Additionally, The fighter swore a eternal obligation to The cleric for his salvation and will now accompany him anywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
In addition, all of them are hunted by the powers that govern the setting for a multiple motives, making remaining behind too risky:
- The rogue and The hero are notorious outlaws.
- The strong figure and The cleric betrayed House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
- The target is targeted for elimination by the family.
This means them no alternative but to head to the northern region in search of the traitor.
Upcoming Developments
According to episode three’s follow-up content, we discover that the combat party will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight participants to round up the Seekers and Planners groups.
