One two-month cruise through the Australian Coast has been cancelled days after the fatal incident of an senior woman who was stranded by the ship on a isolated tropical isle.

The passenger had been trekking on Lizard Island with other travelers from the cruise ship, but parted ways from the group for a rest. The vessel sailed away leaving her and returned after some time after the crew realised the lady was missing.

An extensive search operation found her body the next day.

Authorities are looking into the event, alongside law enforcement and the state coroner.

Head of the cruise operator said that guests and crew on the Coral Adventurer were told that the continuation of the journey had been cancelled due to the "tragic passing and earlier engine troubles".

Via official communication, he mentioned that passengers would be given a full refund, and said the organization was working "to coordinate the travel back of the passengers via specially arranged planes".

Regulatory bodies also published an updated statement, and said they had "issued a directive to the Commander" banning any new passengers from boarding the vessel.

The official said that they would visit the ship in the port city upon its coming back.
